2019 Downunder Jampot – Information – Oberon NSW

Welcome to the 2019 Downunder Jampot Rally.

This year the AJSMOC are holding their annual ‘Downunder Jampot Rally’ in the central west NSW town of Oberon. The rally has been planned near the towns of Lithgow and Bathurst and hopes to attract Classic & Enthusiasts motorcycle members from the regional towns of Orange and Bathurst as well as being suitably located for riders to attend from Sydney, Illawarra and Goulburn areas. We encourage families to attend and will be supplying a 20 seat bus to follow the rally route.

Interstate visitors will find many local attractions to ensure their extended stay is made most enjoyable. From 2-10th November the town will be celebrating ‘Outdoor Week’, promoting, Wineries, Jenolan Caves, Mayfield Gardens, Museums, Trout fishing and forest activities. In addition, we will be holding a small ‘Scavenger Hunt’ over the rally weekend.

Check in will be available at the Jenolan Caravan park from Friday 1st November followed by a short ‘Maintenance Run’ in the afternoon, up to the Oberon Dam. Friday evening we will have a welcome ‘Sausage Sizzle’ at the campsite, at which time the details of the scavenger hunt will be announced.

Saturday will see us head to O’Connell for a morning tea and then a leisurely ride south to Burraga via Rockley. Lunch will be at the ‘Burraga Sport and Recreational club’ where the bikes will be lined up for judging. After lunch we will make our way back to Oberon via Black Springs. For Saturday evening entertainment, a three course meal is planned for the presentation dinner and raffle, at the RSL club. The annual AJSMOC AGM will be held on the Sunday morning at the caravan park and followed by a short run, through ‘Luscious woodbine’ pine forests, heading south to Abercrombie via shooter’s hill and returning to Oberon via Black Springs. The run will terminate at the Oberon Railway and Heritage Museum where a BBQ lunch is planned and a prize for the winner of the scavenger hunt will be presented. The Railway museum / Skoda museum and Tractor orphanage, will all be available for inspection this afternoon.

Shakespear’s influence on the township of Oberon:

A Midsummer Night’s Dream play starts and ends in Medieval Athens at a time when the atmosphere is one of celebration and love, as the Duke, Theseus, prepares to marry the Amazon Queen, Hippolyta. The action moves to nearby woods, inhabited by fairies. The human beings and the fairies act out a drama in which human emotions become subject to the spells and manipulations of the fairies.

 Spoken by Oberon, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act 2, Scene 1

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull’d in these flowers with dances and delight;
And there the snake throws her enamell’d skin,
Weed wide enough to wrap a fairy in:
And with the juice of this I’ll streak her eyes,
And make her full of hateful fantasies.
Take thou some of it, and seek through this grove:
A sweet Athenian lady is in love
With a disdainful youth: anoint his eyes;
But do it when the next thing he espies
May be the lady: thou shalt know the man
By the Athenian garments he hath on.
Effect it with some care, that he may prove
More fond on her than she upon her love:
And look thou meet me ere the first cock crow.

Perhaps the township of Oberon, with its ‘Luscious woodbine’ pine forests, mushrooms, ‘Musk –rose’ flowers and trout filled brooks ‘where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,’ is still under the magic Shakespearean spell. If so, you may have the pleasure of ‘fantasies’ and dreams when you sleep in Oberon.

Pleasant dreams.
