2020 International Jampot Rally in New Zealand

AJS & Matchless Owners Club (Aust.) Inc.

2020 International Jampot Rally

Nelson,

New Zealand.

Genuine expressions of interest are being presently sought after from all motorcyclist enthusiasts to join the AJS and Matchless Owners Club (Aust. Section) to Nelson, New Zealand for the 2020 International Down Under Jampot Rally. While this promising event might at this early stage be several months away our primary aim is to firstly obtain the most appropriate freight arrangements at the absolute minimal costs for those with a genuine interest to join us. Negotiations at hand are being presently negotiated with several freight handling companies together with the view of major sponsors to assist with individual or whole container shipping costs. If those with a sincere interest could contact the Australian contingent shipping co-ordinator, we would like to get this event up and running sooner rather than later. We would be looking at no less than 10 or a dozen motorcycles, more if possible to have this venture made worthwhile. Once a firm date around late February early March has been established arrange for your 2020 vacations to secure your engagement with us.

New Zealand International Jampot Rally 2020.

Organized by the New Zealand Register.

20 years will have passed since New Zealand last hosted the International Jampot Rally so we are preparing a pre rally tour of the South Island leaving Nelson on Monday 3rd February 2020 and travelling south down the West Coast through some of the finest scenic roads in New Zealand to our southernmost city of Invercargill to view the Motorcycle Racing Events at the Bert Munro Challenge. Events will include Hill Climb, Beach Racing, Track Racing, Speedway and Street Races.

From there we intend travelling North over Alpine Passes, returning to Nelson on Friday February 14th to our Rally Head Quarters at Tahuna Beach Holiday Park covering a distance of approximately 1300 miles or 2170 kilometers.

For the adventurists there could be some gravel back roads we can detour through. We expect to provide a backup vehicle with trailer including a qualified mechanic, tools and spare parts. The approximate cost of the pre Rally tour which would cover accommodation for 11 nights and backup vehicle we anticipate to be around £400 ($720 give or take) per person.

Our Saturday ride takes us West over the Takaka Hill to Takaka for lunch and return to Tahuna Beach Holiday Park for our Annual General Meeting, Dinner Evening, Guest Speaker and Award Presentations. The Rally will conclude on Sunday 16th February. The cost just to attend the Rally in Nelson for Friday to Sunday for just meals and Rally entry without accommodation would be approximately £80 ($145).

We have 2 couples who would like to return to the UK in August 2020 who are willing to loan bikes in New Zealand for a return deal in the UK.

We require 2 more bikes.

 Points of interest to consider.

1/.     If considering shipping your bike to New Zealand they should arrive Mid-January 2020 to Port Nelson.

2/.     While insurance is not compulsory it is certainly recommend.

3/.     Bikes must pass a safety inspection before they are permitted to operate on our roads.

4/.     A deposit of £400 ($720 approx.) per person is required to secure accommodation bookings for the pre Rally tour and is required no later than 30th November 2018. This is due to having to secure suitable lodging particularly in Invercargill as this is peak tourist season and we envisage a group of 40 odd people on the tour.

5/.     Accommodation at the Tahuna Beach Holiday Park will be able to be selected by Rally entrants online as there is a wide range of options from tent sites to luxury apartments. We have been allocated a booking reference for Rally attendees to obtain Special Group deal Rates. Accommodation is to be booked direct with the Park by the Rally attendees.

6/.     For partners or non-riders, the Management at the Park can organize wine tours of the Nelson Region or visit some of the numerous art galleries or visit the open air markets in central Nelson.

7/.     Bikes of the Marque are preferred on our Rallies but other makes will be made more than welcome. Campervans will also be accepted.

8/.     If interested and would like to learn more or require assistance in joining us at this Major event on our Clubs calendar you are welcome to contact the Rally Organizer, Murray McLean by emailing matchlessnz@icloud.com or by phoning +64 3 525 7024

Sorry we speak only English.

  1. Hi Folk, Haven’t yet had a lot of positive responses regarding my many postings about the coming 2020 AJSMOC International Jampot Rally in Nelson New Zealand. I’m beginning to wonder if all the work involved so far has been in vane. For those with the interest in joining the group to Invercargil for the Bert Munro Festival you have very little time remaining in sending off your accommodation deposit to secure your lodgings. Have we been too swift in assuming the demand for the shipping container to travel to Nelson for this event or what? Some positive responses would be most welcome right about now.

  2. Since corresponding with the 2020 Jampot Rally organizer Murray McLean in New Zealand we now have ’til the end of December to have your accommodation deposit in to secure your lodgings at Invercargill. This has now been extended for one month for your benefit. If your intentions are to join the group you had better hop to it about now otherwise you could very well miss out.
I’d like to also draw your attention to the above information about the motorcycle rental company. If you can’t see your way clear to transport your machine with us your next option could be to contact David Arnot. Have a chat with him about hiring a suitable machine for the tour.

  3. Hi folk, Now less than 12 months away I’m becoming more than anxious about the responses from our Club Membership who originally showed us positive support and favorable interest in the idea of joining us for this once in a lifetime excursion to the 2020 International Jampot Rally in Nelson, New Zealand. Is it required of me now to close the book on this one with a mere 2 of us on the list. For the last time now your absolute commitment needs to be secured with your $100 deposit to join us. I shall be awfully disappointed if I’m most reluctantly committed to contact the shipping agents to announce the tremendous amount of time and effort put in by both parties has been insufficiently supported from our Members, I sincerely hope not. For those Club Members with access to this Club web site I appeal upon you folk to spread the word expeditiously to those others without web site accessibility.
I truly believe more that ample time and sufficient notification has been posted and mentioned at the last 2 Annual General Meetings of the Club. Does nobody ever listen or read the minutes from our Club AGM, surely they are interested in the welfare of the Club? I’ve been assured also the same message has been announced from the Master of Ceremonies at the Presentation Dinners at both recent Jampot Rallies.
DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR? DO I SOUND ANXIOUS OR WHAT?
